Staff Software Engineer - Data Platform

About the role

Databricks is building a world‑class Data Intelligence Platform to automate decision‑making across the company. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Data Platform team, you will work with product, data science, and engineering groups to design and operate the platform that powers business and product metrics.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate the cross‑company Data Intelligence Platform that stores every business and product metric.
• Develop tooling and infrastructure for managing Databricks at scale across multiple clouds, geographies, and deployment types, including CI/CD pipelines, test frameworks, and infrastructure‑as‑code.
• Partner with engineering teams to define long‑term vision and requirements for Databricks products.
• Build reliable data pipelines using Databricks, partner products, and open‑source tools, providing early feedback on design and operations.
• Represent Databricks at academic and industry conferences and events.

Required profile

• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of experience building and operating large‑scale distributed systems.
• 4+ years of technical leadership on planet‑scale production data systems.
• Experience leading architecture for performance‑sensitive, latency‑critical, multi‑tenant platforms.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in fast‑paced, cross‑functional environments.
• Strategic mindset aligning engineering execution with long‑term product and company goals.
• Passion for mentoring and developing other engineers.
