Staff Security Software Engineer

About the role

Coupang is seeking an experienced Staff Security Software Engineer to design and build scalable security platforms that strengthen the company’s security posture. This hands‑on individual contributor role focuses on solving complex technical problems at scale and influencing technical direction across multiple teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and delivery of high‑impact security engineering initiatives.
• Build scalable security platforms and distributed systems addressing complex security challenges.
• Collaborate with Security, Engineering, Infrastructure, and GRC teams to turn ambiguous requirements into production‑ready solutions.
• Drive architecture reviews, technical design reviews, and engineering best practices.
• Evaluate emerging technologies, AI capabilities, and security solutions through prototypes and investigations.

Required profile

• 8+ years of software engineering experience building large‑scale distributed systems.
• Proven technical leadership on complex, cross‑functional initiatives.
• Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Java, Go, Python, or C++.
• Experience with AWS services, IAM, security controls, logging, and access management.
• Strong understanding of system architecture, distributed systems, performance, and reliability.
• Security engineering experience in domains such as vulnerability management, GRC, application and data security, detection and response, or security automation.
• Experience designing, building, and operating highly scalable and reliable software platforms.
