Staff Nurse – Medicine (Band 5)

About the role

The NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking a Band 5 Registered Nurse to join the Lomond Ward at Vale of Leven Hospital. This 27‑bed acute medical ward provides care for a diverse patient population across multiple specialties. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred care.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and uphold standards of care in line with ward policies, procedures and protocols.
• Lead, supervise and mentor junior staff and students, providing guidance and educational support.
• Teach registered and non‑registered nursing staff, including basic and post‑basic students.
• Organise workload to meet patient needs and maintain accurate patient records.
• Manage departmental stock, ensuring economical use of resources.
• Apply evidence‑based practice, participate in clinical audits and follow PREP guidelines.
• Adhere to infection control policies and act as a role model for a safe environment.
• Produce clear, concise documentation compliant with NMC standards.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse on the NMC Register with a live UK PIN.
• Evidence of continued professional development.
• Excellent interpersonal, analytical and numerical abilities.
• Good IT knowledge.
