Staff Nurse – Dialysis Unit

About the role

The Staff Nurse joins a dedicated dialysis health‑care team to deliver safe and effective hemodialysis therapy. Working under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse, the role ensures compliance with organizational policies, state and federal regulations, and contributes to continuous quality improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Welcome patients, assess wellbeing, and obtain pre‑ and post‑treatment vital signs and weight.
• Evaluate vascular access for patency, perform cannulation, and administer heparin as permitted.
• Set up and operate hemodialysis machines, program ultrafiltration goals, and monitor safety alarms.
• Initiate and supervise dialysis treatment according to prescribed blood and dialysate flow rates.
• Identify and intervene on intradialytic problems per physician orders.
• Document treatment parameters, vital signs, and patient responses on the Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet.
• Ensure proper hemostasis, apply dressings, and evaluate patients before discharge.
• Participate in patient education on adequacy measures, disease process, and access care.
• Support Quality Enhancement Program activities and report significant changes to the supervising RN.

Required profile

• Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) with current state registration.
• Experience in hemodialysis or renal nursing preferred.
• Ability to work under supervision and follow detailed clinical protocols.
• Strong attention to patient safety and documentation accuracy.
