Software Engineering Manager

About the role

Spiro is building the operating system for electric mobility across Africa and is looking for a hands‑on Engineering Manager to lead one or more core software teams in Pune or Bangalore. You will own the end‑to‑end delivery of highly‑available, data‑intensive platforms that support billions of events and over a million daily transactions.

Key responsibilities

• Own delivery and quality for your team(s), balancing roadmap commitments with technical debt and platform reliability across nine live markets.
• Hire, coach, and grow engineers; design structured interview loops, leveling rubrics and scorecards.
• Partner with Architecture and Product to translate ambiguous business needs into scoped engineering plans.
• Drive engineering excellence through CI/CD health, DORA metrics, incident response quality and sustainable on‑call practices.
• Represent the team in OKR planning and hold it accountable to measurable outcomes such as swap uptime and pipeline latency.
• Stay technically involved – review designs, unblock incidents and occasionally write code without becoming a bottleneck.

Required profile

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years managing engineers.
• Proven track record shipping distributed, data‑intensive or IoT‑adjacent systems at scale.
• Experience in high‑growth startups or top product‑tech companies.
• Comfort operating with incomplete information and thin support structures.
