Software Engineer II – Cloud & AI Development

About the role

Mastercard is seeking a Software Engineer II to design, develop, and maintain scalable cloud‑based applications. The role focuses on integrating AI technologies into the software development lifecycle while ensuring high quality, security, and performance.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, efficient, and reliable applications in a cloud‑based environment.
• Collaborate with product owners, architects, and senior engineers to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
• Ensure solutions comply with architectural standards, security guidelines, and best engineering practices.
• Drive adoption of AI technologies across the SDLC, using prompt engineering, generative AI, coding assistants, and AI‑powered tools.
• Participate in code reviews, unit testing, integration testing, and deployment processes.
• Monitor systems, respond to incidents, and lead root‑cause analysis and remediation.
• Conduct research and proof‑of‑concepts for emerging technologies, frameworks, and tools.
• Develop and maintain documentation for design, implementation, and operational support.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines, development workflows, and automation efforts.
• Engage in agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, retrospectives, and backlog refinement.
• Work closely with senior engineers and technical leads for mentorship and skill development.
• Assist with effort estimation, project planning, and prioritization to meet timelines.
• Stay updated on modern software practices, evolving technologies, and security standards.

Required profile

• 4–6 years of professional software development experience.
• Proficiency in Java (Java 8 or higher) and Spring Boot.
• Good understanding of Azure public cloud.
• Solid grasp of microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and DevOps methodologies.
• Experience with relational (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra) databases.
• Experience using modern AI development tools (GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor) for coding, testing, and documentation.
• Basic understanding of application security principles and cloud‑native development (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related technical discipline.
• Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and debugging skills with minimal supervision.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities in global, cross‑functional teams.
