Software Engineer II – Azure SQL Database Capacity Management

About the role

Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is looking for a Software Engineer II to help design, build, and operate capacity‑management services for Azure SQL Database workloads. You will contribute to a mission‑critical platform that powers AI‑enabled data applications worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and operate scalable services that manage capacity allocation, placement, and lifecycle for Azure SQL Database workloads.
• Improve reliability, performance, and availability through automation, observability, and incident‑prevention techniques.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional Azure Data teams to deliver resilient, customer‑centric solutions.
• Apply modern engineering practices such as CI/CD, test automation, telemetry‑driven development, and DevOps workflows.
• Enhance developer productivity by building tooling, frameworks, and automation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 3 years of software engineering experience.
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.

Required skills

• Proficiency in at least one of the following languages: C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, test automation, and DevOps practices.
• Strong understanding of cloud‑native service design, observability, and automation.
