Software Engineer – Backend (Level 2)

About the role

Meltwater is seeking a Backend Software Engineer (Level 2) to design, develop, and maintain the scalable services that power its media intelligence and social analytics platforms. You will work on APIs, data pipelines, and cloud‑based applications that serve customers worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend applications, APIs, and services.
• Build scalable, reliable systems for data processing and platform features.
• Develop secure RESTful APIs for internal and external use.
• Work with PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB databases.
• Collaborate with frontend engineers, product managers, and QA teams.
• Write clean, efficient, maintainable code and participate in code reviews.
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI.
• Use Docker and containerised environments; support cloud deployments.
• Troubleshoot production issues and participate in on‑call rotations.

Required profile

• Strong programming skills in Python or Java.
• Minimum 3 + years of professional backend engineering experience.
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and OOP design.
• Hands‑on experience with PostgreSQL/MySQL and MongoDB.
• Familiarity with microservices architecture and distributed systems.
• Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI).
• Proficiency with Docker; Kubernetes knowledge is a plus.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is a plus.
• Strong problem‑solving, debugging, and communication skills.
