Software Engineer – Backend & AI

About the role

The Software Engineer – Backend & AI will design, build, and maintain the API and integration layer for the AI Centre of Excellence. You will create fast, reliable micro‑services that expose retrieval‑augmented generation, agent, and machine‑learning capabilities to internal and external consumers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop FastAPI micro‑services that deliver RAG, agent and ML features as REST endpoints.
• Build tool APIs that enable AI agents to search, retrieve, create, update, or integrate with external systems.
• Integrate with enterprise platforms such as SharePoint, document management systems, ERP solutions, and databases.
• Design and manage PostgreSQL and MongoDB schemas supporting AI product features.
• Implement authentication and authorization mechanisms for AI services.
• Handle asynchronous patterns, background tasks, queuing, and high‑throughput API serving.

Required profile

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong background in backend development and API design.
• Proven ability to consume and integrate large‑language‑model APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic).
• Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases.

• Python (production‑grade code, testing, exception handling).
• FastAPI framework.
• SQL and complex query optimisation.

• Git version control and Docker containerisation.
• OpenAI and Anthropic API consumption.
