Software Engineer – AlloyDB Database Internals

About the role

Google Cloud is seeking a Software Engineer to work on the core internals of AlloyDB, its fully managed PostgreSQL‑compatible database service. You will design and implement high‑performance query engine components and help ensure transactional consistency at scale.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain high‑performance database internals, focusing on AlloyDB query engine design and implementation.
• Lead or participate in design reviews, shaping architectural decisions for large‑scale distributed systems.
• Review peer code, enforce best practices, and contribute to testing and documentation.
• Debug, triage, and resolve system issues, including performance benchmarking and query optimization.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• At least 2 years of experience with database internals and AI algorithms.
• Experience building, testing, and supporting cloud‑based managed services.
• Ability to work with globally distributed technical teams.

Required skills

• C and C++ programming.
• Deep understanding of RDBMS kernel, storage, serializability and consistency.
• Experience with cloud platforms (Google Cloud) and distributed systems.
• Knowledge of AI algorithms applied to database workloads.
