Software Development Engineer – Operations

About the role

Amazon Global-focused Operations Technology Solutions (ARTS) is looking for experienced Software Development Engineers to innovate and automate Amazon Operations across India and other markets. You will design, build, and maintain distributed software that improves fulfillment efficiency, inventory allocation, and delivery logistics.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain scalable distributed software solutions.
• Work on a variety of technical stacks, including web applications, backend services, cloud architecture, and machine learning.
• Collaborate with technical and business teams locally and globally to translate business problems into technical solutions.
• Produce technical design documents and drive consensus among stakeholders.
• Stay updated with new cloud technologies and apply them to operational challenges.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional software development experience (non‑internship).
• 2+ years of design or architecture experience for new and existing systems.
• Strong foundation in computer science fundamentals: object‑oriented design, data structures, algorithms, and complexity analysis.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to design technical solutions using industry standards (e.g., UML) and make informed trade‑offs.

Required skills

• Proficiency in at least one programming language (TypeScript, Python, or Java).
• Experience with AWS services such as EC2, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, and SQS.
• Knowledge of software testing practices: unit, integration, end‑to‑end, and canary testing.
• Familiarity with UML for technical design documentation.
