Simulation Specialist – Elevator Systems R&D

About the role

The Simulation Specialist will develop, validate and maintain multi‑domain simulation models for elevator systems within KONE’s R&D organisation. You will enable virtual prototyping, performance optimisation and support product, hardware and software development across the elevator portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Create and maintain system‑level and component‑level models (mechanical, electrical, control, passenger traffic) using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, Modelica/Dymola or Amesim.
• Collaborate with Product, Hardware and Software R&D teams to simulate new concepts, control strategies, building traffic scenarios and ride‑comfort assessments.
• Perform dynamic, vibration, noise, fatigue and thermal studies on critical components (machines, doors, brakes, ropes, guide rails, structures).
• Develop and calibrate digital‑twin environments for remote monitoring, predictive maintenance and service decision support.
• Plan and execute simulation studies addressing safety margins, energy usage, stress/strain, thermal effects and fault responses, and document results and guidelines.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics or a related discipline.
• 7‑10 years of experience in system simulation/modeling in industrial or transportation domains.
• Strong analytical mindset, attention to detail and ability to produce clear visualisations and reports.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with MATLAB/Simulink, Modelica/Dymola or Amesim (or equivalent multi‑physics tools).
• Proficiency in Ansys Mechanical; experience with Ansys LS‑DYNA or Altair Radios is a plus.
• Version‑control (Git) and CI/CD for model management.
• Scripting/automation using MATLAB, Python or similar for parameter sweeps and optimisation.
