Senior Staff Systems Engineer

About the role

SPAN is looking for a senior technical leader who can bridge hardware, firmware and cloud ecosystems to build scalable, reliable, and cost‑efficient platforms for electrification solutions. You will act as a hands‑on architect and mentor, driving end‑to‑end system design and execution across the stack.

Key responsibilities

• Distill complex, multi‑layered technical challenges into simple, elegant solutions aligned with business goals.
• Influence high‑impact decisions and own end‑to‑end system considerations, especially at the hardware‑cloud intersection.
• Champion a "platform‑first" approach by consolidating tools and simplifying the technical stack across firmware and cloud.
• Design high‑performance, scalable systems including cloud back‑ends, automated deployments, and Infrastructure‑as‑Code.
• Architect secure device‑to‑cloud communication, OTA updates, and robust edge computing strategies.

Required profile

• 15+ years of technical leadership experience integrating hardware, firmware and cloud ecosystems.
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive cross‑functional technical decisions.
• Strong track record of delivering scalable, reliable platforms in IoT environments.

Required skills

• C/C++ development for RTOS (FreeRTOS, Zephyr) or bare‑metal.
• Deep knowledge of MCU/MPU architectures.
• Experience with cloud native services (AWS Lambda/Functions, Kubernetes, NoSQL, event‑driven architectures).
• Device‑to‑cloud protocols: MQTT, CoAP, HTTPS; wireless: Wi‑Fi, BLE, Cellular.
• Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible for hardware‑in‑the‑loop and cloud deployments.
• Secure OTA update mechanisms, hardware root‑of‑trust, edge data processing.
• Scripting in Python or Bash for automation and analysis.
