Senior Software Engineer - Database Engineer

About the role

Mastercard is seeking a Senior Software Engineer specialized in database engineering to define, design, and maintain its data architecture. You will work on Oracle and PostgreSQL platforms, driving performance, reliability, and scalability while supporting cloud and automation initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Translate business requirements into scalable database architecture solutions.
• Design, develop, maintain, and optimize Oracle and PostgreSQL databases.
• Create and support data models, database structures, and integration processes.
• Analyse and tune SQL queries, stored procedures, and overall database performance.
• Implement and enforce database standards, configurations, and operational procedures.
• Ensure database security, compliance, risk mitigation, and access control.
• Troubleshoot database issues and guide development teams and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with application teams to improve system performance, availability, and reliability.
• Lead automation initiatives and leverage AI‑assisted tools to boost engineering productivity.
• Prepare status reports, conduct root‑cause analysis, and support production environments.
• Lead technical design discussions and drive continuous improvement.
• Manage small to medium projects and provide technical leadership in Agile/Scrum teams.
• Facilitate Scrum ceremonies and coordinate delivery across technical teams.
• Orchestrate CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, AWS/Azure pipelines, or XL Release.

Required profile

• Strong experience in database design, data modelling, development, production support, and performance optimisation.
• Expertise with Oracle or PostgreSQL databases.
• Proven track record designing and implementing database architecture standards and best practices.
• Experience with cloud providers and modern CI/CD workflows.
• Ability to lead technical discussions and mentor team members.
