About the role

Join the Knowledge Innovation & Taxonomy Engineering (KITE) team at Elsevier, part of RELX, to design and implement methods for linking and aligning taxonomies and ontologies. You will work on semantic data models, automation pipelines, and integration services that power a range of scientific and healthcare products.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement methods for linking and aligning existing taxonomies and ontologies.
• Model and maintain controlled vocabularies using SKOS, SKOS‑XL, and OWL.
• Query and manipulate semantic data with SPARQL.
• Integrate taxonomy/ontology data with other systems via REST APIs.
• Develop and maintain Python scripts/tools to support data‑modeling and integration workflows.
• Collaborate with the team to translate data needs into semantic data models.

Required profile

• Extensive hands‑on experience with SPARQL.
• Advanced Python programming skills.
• Experience working with REST APIs.
• Strong data‑modelling background.
• Familiarity with linked‑data standards and principles.

Required skills

• SKOS, SKOS‑XL, OWL, RDF, RDFS, JSON‑LD.
• Taxonomy/ontology management tools (e.g., Centre, Synaptica, TopBraid, Protégé).
• Git/GitHub.
• AWS services (Batch, Lambda, Athena, S3, ECR, RDS, SNS/SQS).
• Automation/CI‑CD concepts.
• SHACL (nice to have).
