Senior Civil Engineer – Rail Infrastructure

About the role

As a Senior Engineer – Civils (Rail) you will take ownership of moderate to complex design tasks within rail infrastructure projects, gather and analyse engineering data, and guide junior engineers to deliver high‑quality solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Perform detailed engineering calculations and tests for station structures, platforms and lineside infrastructure.
• Gather, correlate and validate basic engineering data using established procedures.
• Identify discrepancies in results and propose modifications to standard methods.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to entry‑level engineers.
• Deliver primary design elements independently while adhering to budget and schedule constraints.

Required profile

• Master of Engineering (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
• 5+ years of structural design experience, including concrete and steel design.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in the UK rail sector working on station structures, platforms and lineside assets.
• Proven experience coordinating multi‑disciplinary teams on railway projects.
• Leadership experience managing small engineering teams and CAD deliverables.

Required skills

• Structural engineering design (concrete and steel).
• Reinforced‑concrete detailing and BBS (British Standard) checks.
• Multi‑disciplinary coordination on rail projects.
• CAD modelling and drafting.
• Design of foundations (piles, rafts, pads) and retaining walls.
• Design and assessment of steel footbridges, stairs and lift shafts.
