Safety Engineer

About the role

The Safety Engineer will join NXP’s Functional Safety Competence Center to develop safety‑compliant semiconductor products. You will define, analyze and validate safety concepts, work with cross‑functional teams and ensure functional safety throughout the development lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Define and develop functional and technical safety concepts based on product architecture and intended functionality.
• Perform safety analyses at IP and product levels, including FTA, DFA and FMEDA.
• Collaborate with hardware, software and system teams to implement safety concepts and support verification and validation strategies.
• Contribute to safety audits, assessments and internal reviews, and assist customers with integration of NXP safety products.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent.
• 5–8 years of semiconductor product development experience with exposure to functional safety.
• Strong understanding of microcontroller and microprocessor architectures used in automotive or industrial safety.
• Knowledge of safety standards such as ISO 26262 or IEC 61508 and related development lifecycles.

Required skills

• Safety analysis techniques: Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Design Failure Analysis (DFA), Failure Modes, Effects and Diagnostic Analysis (FMEDA).
• Experience with safety analysis and modeling tools (e.g., Medini).
• Familiarity with requirements management tools (e.g., ELM7).
• Understanding of IP and SoC level safety mechanisms.
