Ruby on Rails Engineer – Hybrid (Bangalore)

About the role

Commutatus is looking for a Ruby on Rails Engineer to join a cross‑functional squad in Bangalore. You will help design, build and maintain the core frameworks that power dozens of client platforms across multiple industries.

Key responsibilities

• Research and feasibility checks: provide input on new features and advise on technical viability.
• Planning and estimation: assist the squad in planning and estimating work to meet delivery timelines.
• Framework development: create reusable components such as file export utilities and rate‑limiting mechanisms that are distributed via gem updates.
• Framework implementation: deliver functionality through Platform Gem and GraphQL APIs that impact clients ranging from e‑commerce to EdTech.
• Continuous improvement: participate in retrospectives, flag issues and propose process enhancements.

Required profile

• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
• Organised and structured approach to pull‑requests, JIRA tickets and documentation.
• Proactive problem‑solver who researches solutions on the fly.

Required skills

• Deep understanding of Ruby on Rails and API development.
• Experience with GraphQL and REST APIs.
• Database design and performance optimisation.
• Familiarity with deployment automation tools such as GitHub Actions.
• Knowledge of backend components including app servers, caches and scaling strategies.
