Registered Nurse – Discharge Lounge

About the role

We are seeking a dynamic, forward‑thinking Registered Nurse to join the Discharge Lounge at NHS Golden Jubilee University National Hospital. The role focuses on ensuring a smooth and safe discharge process for patients following surgery or procedures, coordinating with ward teams and external agencies.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate the discharge of post‑surgical patients, ensuring all clinical and administrative steps are completed.
• Liaise with ward staff, social care teams and external agencies to arrange appropriate care packages before discharge.
• Prioritise competing demands to meet patient and service needs efficiently.
• Provide clear communication to patients, families and multidisciplinary teams regarding discharge plans.
• Maintain accurate documentation of discharge activities and outcomes.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse qualification, eligible to practice in the UK.
• Caring and compassionate demeanor towards patients and colleagues.
• Excellent communication skills and a proactive “can‑do” attitude.
• Ability to manage conflicting priorities and work under pressure.

Required skills

• Experience in post‑operative care and discharge planning.
• Knowledge of NHS policies and procedures related to patient discharge.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
