Rack Decommissioning Data Technician

About the role

Amazon Data Services India is seeking a Rack Decommissioning Data Technician to support large‑scale legacy equipment liquidation in its Indian data centers. You will work on decommissioning racks, servers, networking gear and storage media while ensuring strict data sanitisation and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Process and remove legacy hardware from data‑center facilities.
• Move large enterprise equipment and perform rack installation or migration.
• Remove, destroy and sanitise hard drives, SSDs and other removable storage media.
• Create and attach labels and barcodes to equipment.
• Update progress using web‑based ticketing systems and document procedures.
• Escalate issues to senior technicians or managers as required.
• Maintain site organisation, cleanliness and adhere to health, safety and security protocols.

Required profile

• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team.
• Capability to perform repetitive tasks consistently and follow detailed SOPs.
• Attention to data protection and strict adherence to security guidelines.

Required skills

• Handling of HDD, SSD, flash and other removable storage media.
• Experience with USB, FireWire and eSATA interfaces.
• Label creation and barcode attachment.
• Use of web‑based ticketing systems for tracking work.
• Basic hardware troubleshooting and rack‑level operations.
