Product Legal Counsel

About the role

Teradata is building a new Product Counsel function to embed legal expertise directly into product and engineering teams. As a Product Legal Counsel you will guide the development, launch, and lifecycle of innovative technology products, ensuring compliance with regulations and protecting the company’s intellectual property.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with product, engineering and business teams on feature design, go‑to‑market decisions and product risk trade‑offs.
• Provide legal advice throughout the product lifecycle—from ideation to launch—covering AI, privacy, trade, ESG and IP regulations.
• Draft, negotiate and review commercial, technology, procurement and IP agreements.
• Oversee the Product Counsel Contract Manager function, set contracting positions and maintain playbooks.
• Conduct risk assessments, develop mitigation strategies and monitor IP rights, including patents, trademarks and open‑source licensing.
• Act as a bridge between legal, compliance, product and business teams to resolve complex issues and drive alignment.
• Lead cross‑functional projects such as product launches and regulatory reviews.
• Draft terms of use, product policies, disclosures and implement related processes.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with a strong interest in AI and technology products.
• Experience advising product or engineering teams on legal and regulatory matters.
• Ability to anticipate legal issues early and enable agile, compliant product delivery.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
