Product Engineer (Mobile)

About the role

Cardboard is a browser-based video editor and Mac app, backed by YC, that edits footage mostly shot on phones. It is hiring a Product Engineer (Mobile) to build the first version of Cardboard for mobile from scratch and to decide what the phone experience should be. The team cares more about taste and craft than any particular technology stack.

Key responsibilities

• Own Cardboard on iOS and Android, from architecture to the app stores.
• Handle real phone footage: 4K, HDR and large files.
• Build uploads that survive bad networks and the app going to the background.
• Decide what to build, ship it and check it worked; talk to users and look at the data.
• Work with AI agents every day and act as the taste and judgment in the loop.

Required profile

• Experience shipping mobile apps that people use every day, and attention to how they feel.
• A strong mobile engineer, whether Swift, Kotlin or React Native.
• Bonus: experience building a camera, photo or video app.
