Principal Technician - Roads

About the role

We are looking for an ambitious Principal Technician to join our UKGCC Highway team in India. You will work alongside UK‑based colleagues, contributing to road infrastructure projects from feasibility through detailed design and construction.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of Technicians, reviewing and improving their work and knowledge.
• Produce and ensure all drawings comply with WSP, client CAD standards and UK highway design standards.
• Develop and deploy CAD and BIM capabilities, including BIM Execution Plans and standards.
• Support resource management, utilisation forecasting, fee proposals and recruitment as needed.
• Apply health and safety policies, ensuring compliance with H&S manuals and local procedures.
• Contribute to Lean processes to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
• Collaborate with project managers and discipline leads on multiple concurrent projects.

Required profile

• Proactive and able to manage several projects simultaneously.
• Strong ability to predict time required for individual scopes of work.
• Commitment to personal development with a clear development plan.
• Understanding of UK highway design standards and relevant technical guidance.
• Willingness to adhere to health and safety policies and procedures.

Required skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD or MicroStation following defined CAD standards.
• Experience with BIM concepts and standards for civil engineering projects.
• Knowledge of UK design standards such as DMRB, MfS, TSRGD, HCD, IAN 184.
• Ability to customise and automate CAD programs to increase productivity.
• Familiarity with Bentley ProjectWise and Navisworks.
• Competence with standard office software.
