Principal Engineer – Rail Bridges & Structures

About the role

AECOM is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the design and delivery of rail bridge and structure projects. The role combines technical leadership, interdisciplinary collaboration, and cost‑effective design solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as senior technical advisor for the team and provide specialized input to studies and designs.
• Develop study and design procedures that ensure high‑quality, cost‑effective work by others.
• Participate in interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables.
• Prepare construction cost estimates and estimate technical effort for projects.
• Lead all steps of the discipline component of the PS&E package.
• Perform quality‑control reviews of design calculations and drawings.
• Prepare technical specification sections.
• Contribute to engineering budget and schedule development to meet project requirements.

Required profile

• Master of Engineering (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
• Working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
• 12+ years of design experience in structural engineering, specifically rail and road bridges.
• Familiarity with international standards such as Euro Code, British Standards, AASHTO, AREMA, DMRB and Australian Standards.
