Principal Engineer – Protection & Control

About the role

We are seeking a Principal Engineer to lead Protection & Control (P&C) engineering for transmission, distribution, and renewable energy projects in the United States. The role combines technical leadership with hands‑on design of substation protection systems up to 400 kV.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare proposals, scopes, conceptual designs and execution plans for P&C projects.
• Generate cost, man‑hour estimates and project schedules.
• Lead design of protection and control systems, including relay one‑line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA architecture, signal lists and cable schedules.
• Produce detailed substation P&C packages compliant with IEC/IEEE standards.
• Perform engineering studies such as voltage‑drop analysis and AC/DC load studies.
• Develop equipment specifications for procurement and factory acceptance testing.
• Coordinate design activities with civil/structural teams and the US Energy Engineering Team.
• Conduct design reviews, mentor junior engineers and drive a “Safety by Design” approach.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• 12–15 years of experience in substation transmission & distribution or renewable (on‑shore/off‑shore wind, solar) projects in the US.
• Strong knowledge of national grid technical standards and IEC/IEEE protection standards.

• Power system protection and control design (11 kV‑400 kV).
