Principal Engineer – Highways

About the role

AECOM is seeking a Principal Engineer – Highways to lead technical delivery on complex highway projects. The role will act as a senior technical advisor, ensuring high‑quality, cost‑effective design across multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as technical advisor for the team and provide specialized input to studies and designs.
• Develop study and design procedures to facilitate high‑quality, cost‑effective work.
• Participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
• Develop construction cost estimates and estimate technical effort for projects.
• Apply expertise across all steps of the PS&E package.
• Perform quality‑control review of design calculations and drawings.
• Prepare technical specification sections.
• Provide input to engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.

Required profile

• 12–15 years of experience in highways/roadway design.
• Proficiency with Open Roads Design (ORD) and Civil 3D.
• Experience on UK, US, Canada, ME, ANZ or other international projects using various codal standards.
• Background in global design collaboration and highway rehabilitation, land development, traffic management plans, junctions, road signs and markings.
