Principal Direct Tax Advisor – Mumbai

About the role

We are seeking a Principal Direct Tax Advisor to lead complex direct tax engagements for our clients in Mumbai. The role combines client advisory, transaction structuring, technical research, and business development support across tax, M&A and regulatory domains.

Key responsibilities

• Advise clients on complex direct tax matters including BEPS, GAAR, indirect transfers, tax planning and restructuring.
• Analyze business structures and transactions to identify tax‑efficient solutions and assess M&A, restructuring and FEMA implications.
• Coordinate with clients to gather required information, review tax returns, financial data and related documents.
• Prepare tax opinions, advisory memos, reports and presentations for senior review and client delivery.
• Conduct detailed research on tax laws, regulations, judicial developments and emerging issues, and produce technical notes and updates.
• Support business development by assisting principals in proposals, pitch decks and identifying new opportunities.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of direct tax, international tax and regulatory frameworks such as FEMA.
• Proven ability to analyze complex transactions and develop commercially viable tax solutions.
• Excellent communication skills to present findings and maintain client relationships.
• Experience in supporting M&A, restructuring and cross‑border tax advisory engagements.
