Principal Direct Tax Advisor

About the role

We are seeking a Principal Direct Tax Advisor to lead complex tax advisory engagements for our clients in Mumbai. The role involves providing strategic guidance on direct tax matters, supporting M&A transactions, conducting technical research, and contributing to business development.

Key responsibilities

• Advise clients on complex direct tax issues including BEPS, GAAR, indirect transfers, tax planning and restructuring.
• Analyze business structures and transactions to identify tax‑efficient solutions and support M&A, restructuring and FEMA related assignments.
• Conduct detailed reviews of tax returns, financial information and related documents, and prepare tax opinions, advisory memos and presentations.
• Perform in‑depth research on tax laws, regulations and emerging issues, and produce technical notes and regulatory updates.
• Assist principals and partners in proposal preparation, client pitching, engagement letters and invoicing processes.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in direct tax advisory, preferably with exposure to international tax, BEPS and GAAR.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex business structures and transactions.
• Proven ability to build and maintain client relationships and to communicate findings clearly.
