About the role

The City of Goodland is seeking an entry‑level Power Plant Operator I to join its Electrical Department. The position includes on‑the‑job training in power plant operations and processes, providing a pathway to a career in municipal energy services.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor power generation equipment according to standard procedures.
• Observe and record plant performance data and system readings.
• Assist senior operators with routine maintenance and troubleshooting tasks.
• Follow safety protocols and emergency response guidelines at all times.
• Report operational issues and recommend corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate logs and documentation for regulatory compliance.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Kansas driver’s license.
• Willingness to learn through on‑the‑job training.
• Ability to work shift schedules in a physically demanding environment.

Required skills

• Basic mechanical aptitude for handling equipment.
• Ability to read gauges, meters, and instrumentation.
• Fundamental computer literacy for data entry and reporting.
