Patient Care Assistant – Neuroscience Unit

About the role

The Patient Care Assistant provides direct bedside support to patients in the Neuroscience Unit, working under the supervision of the Team Leader and registered nurses. This full‑time, day‑shift position involves hands‑on care, assistance with activities of daily living, and specific technical tasks to ensure patient comfort and safety.

Key responsibilities

• Measure and record vital signs, intake‑output, weight, and height.
• Encourage patients to turn, cough, use incentive spirometry, and perform deep‑breathing exercises.
• Assist with ambulation, transfers, and wheelchair use.
• Provide personal care such as bed baths, oral hygiene, dressing, and linen changes.
• Manage drainage systems, urine bags, bedpans, and record outputs.
• Maintain a safe environment by reporting equipment issues and handling supplies.
• Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and collect specimens as ordered.
• Respond promptly to call lights and patient requests.

Required profile

• Ability to work directly with patients, following care plans and supervision guidelines.
• Strong attention to detail for accurate documentation of measurements and outputs.
• Willingness to perform sitter duties for patients requiring constant supervision.
