Ordinary Seaman – Deck Crew on Container Vessels

About the role

Maersk is seeking an Ordinary Seaman to join the deck crew of its advanced container vessels. The role offers hands‑on experience on world‑class ships, with opportunities to develop maritime competencies and contribute to safe and efficient operations.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Officer of the Watch (OOW) during bridge watch‑keeping, ensuring safe navigation.
• Perform deck maintenance and housekeeping tasks under the supervision of the Bosun and Chief Officer.
• Help secure cargo and verify that permits to work and risk assessments are completed before tasks.
• Support gangway and port watch duties, assisting the OOW and Senior Safety Officer in compliance with safety procedures.
• Monitor work‑rest schedules to prevent fatigue and report any compliance issues.
• Assist with loading and unloading operations as directed by deck officers.

Required profile

• Minimum 12 months of deck service on foreign‑going vessels.
• Relevant seagoing experience and willingness to be trained on modern machinery.
• Ability to work under supervision of senior deck officers.
• Commitment to safety, teamwork and continuous learning.

Required skills

• Basic deck operations and watch‑keeping knowledge.
• Understanding of permit‑to‑work and risk‑assessment procedures.
