Mechatronics and Process Controls Engineer

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking a Mechatronics and Process Controls Engineer to design, develop, and validate control solutions for temperature, pressure, flow, and vacuum systems used in semiconductor equipment. The role involves close collaboration with mechanical, electrical, software, and systems engineering teams to deliver high‑performance, reliable process control solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and validate control algorithms for temperature, pressure, flow, and vacuum systems.
• Create dynamic models and perform system identification for thermal, fluid, and gas delivery processes.
• Tune and optimize PID, cascade, feedforward, and advanced model‑based control strategies.
• Integrate and characterize MFCs, pressure sensors, control valves, heaters, pumps, and related instrumentation.
• Analyze system performance, troubleshoot issues, conduct root‑cause investigations, and implement corrective actions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Chemical, or Control Systems Engineering.
• 5‑8 years of experience in process controls, automation, instrumentation, or semiconductor equipment.
• Proven ability to work with cross‑functional teams and deliver reliable control solutions.

Required skills

• MATLAB and Simulink for modeling and simulation.
• Python or equivalent analysis tools.
• PID control, Model‑Based Control, and system identification techniques.
• Experience with temperature controllers, pressure controllers, Mass Flow Controllers (MFCs), control valves, and vacuum systems.
• Data analysis and control algorithm development.
