Mechanical Technician / Fitter – Plant Maintenance (Pharma)

About the role
The Mechanical Technician/Fitter will be responsible for routine, preventive and breakdown maintenance of manufacturing and packing equipment in the Oral Solid Dosage (OSD) facility, ensuring uninterrupted production, equipment reliability and GMP compliance. The role involves operating, maintaining and troubleshooting a range of OSD equipment, supporting the engineering department under the supervision of the Assistant General Manager, Engineering.
Key responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance on OSD equipment such as High Shear Mixer Granulator, Fluid Bed Dryer, Coater, Dust Collector, Blenders, and packaging machines according to SOPs and OEM guidelines.
- Execute breakdown repairs, diagnose mechanical faults, and restore equipment to operation with minimal downtime.
- Carry out lubrication, greasing, tightening, and condition monitoring (vibration, temperature, noise) for pumps, valves, bearings, seals and rotating parts.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, PM checklists, logbooks and support audit activities following GMP and ALCOA+ principles.
- Assist in installation, commissioning and alignment of new equipment and piping, and ensure proper use of PTW, LOTO and PPE.
Required profile
- Diploma or ITI Fitter qualification in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) with 6‑9 years of experience in pharma or FMCG process plant maintenance.
- Hands‑on experience with OSD equipment such as HSMG, FBD, Coater, blister packing, dust collectors and other packaging machines.
- Ability to read and interpret machine drawings, P&ID, GA drawings and standard operating procedures.
- Knowledge of pneumatics, basic electrical interfaces and utility connections (pneumatic, vacuum, water).
Required skills
- Mechanical maintenance and troubleshooting of high‑shear mixers, fluid‑bed dryers, coating machines and packaging lines.
- Preventive maintenance planning and execution following SOPs and OEM recommendations.
- Pump dismantling/assembly and rotating equipment repair.
- Use of mechanical hand tools (spanners, torque wrenches, pullers, dial gauges, vernier calipers) and workshop machines (drill, grinder, cutting tools).
- Condition monitoring techniques (vibration, temperature, noise analysis) and lubrication scheduling.
- Reading and interpreting technical documentation (drawings, P&ID, GA, SOPs).
