Mechanical Engineer – Design for Cost (DFC)

About the role

As a Mechanical Engineer you will leverage a strong foundation in physics, mathematics and materials science to solve mechanical problems, design custom tooling and enable handling, assembly and disassembly of components throughout the product life‑cycle. You will be responsible for creating and modifying mechanical layouts, schematics and specifications while ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Drive Design for Cost (DFC) initiatives across semiconductor equipment to improve competitiveness while maintaining performance, quality and safety.
• Perform Should‑Cost analysis, cost breakdown reviews and technical‑commercial assessments for parts, assemblies and subsystems.
• Partner with engineering, sourcing, manufacturing, quality and suppliers to identify and execute cost‑reduction opportunities.
• Review drawings, BOMs and specifications to pinpoint cost drivers and recommend alternative materials, tolerances, standardization and sourcing strategies.
• Lead value‑engineering and value‑analysis projects focused on simplification, standardization and supply‑chain optimization.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 8‑12 years of experience in semiconductor equipment, cost engineering, manufacturing or product engineering.

Required skills

• Proficiency with NX, Creo and PLM tools such as Windchill or Teamcenter.
• Experience using aPriori or similar cost‑modeling platforms for Should‑Cost analysis.
• Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance optimization and manufacturing processes (precision machining, sheet‑metal fabrication, castings, plastics, ceramics, weldments, surface treatments, electro‑mechanical assemblies).
