Mechanical Designer – Medical Device R&D

About the role

As a Mechanical Designer in Philips Image Guided Therapy, you will develop mechanical designs such as user interfaces, switches, display enclosures, ceiling suspension, thermal simulation, packaging and labeling for new product introductions.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to requirements, integral design, implementation, test and integration for new product introduction projects and product life‑cycle activities.
• Develop and review thermal simulation models, FEA, stack‑up tolerance and ensure proper design documentation (calculations, FMEA, DFM, DFMA, VAVE, verification reporting).
• Ensure modular, maintainable designs that meet specifications and align with internal/external stakeholders including operations, procurement, electrical, mechatronics, compliance, test and quality.
• Participate in design reviews, risk assessments (FMEA) and early integration tests on prototypes, addressing supplier issues.
• Contribute to sourcing strategy, make‑buy decisions, supplier selection and contract management.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 5+ years of R&D experience in the medical domain with hands‑on NPI end‑to‑end product design.
• Strong analytical and methodological mindset with excellent design documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently, proactive problem‑solving attitude and good command of English.
• Experience with Agile Release Trains (SAFe) and Six Sigma Green Belt is a plus; knowledge of FDA/ISO13485 regulatory requirements preferred.
