Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop and optimize custom tooling and fixtures for semiconductor manufacturing equipment. You will work on complex mechanical systems, from concept through implementation, supporting the company’s AI‑driven semiconductor solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, diagnose, and resolve complex mechanical tooling challenges with minimal supervision.
• Design, develop, and implement custom mechanical tooling and fixturing for manufacturing, assembly, inspection, and repair operations.
• Perform detailed engineering analyses on mechanical systems, providing recommendations based on sound engineering principles.
• Lead or execute mechanical design projects from concept to implementation, collaborating with suppliers and cross‑functional teams.
• Define test requirements, coordinate execution, and document engineering test plans and reports for tooling and mechanical systems.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 8–12 years of experience with CAD software, sheet‑metal design, material selection, GD&T, and Design for Excellence principles.
• Proven ability to develop and validate mechanical product specifications and tooling requirements.
• Experience working in a high‑tech manufacturing environment, preferably semiconductor equipment.

Required skills

• UG/NX (or equivalent 3D CAD) for modeling, detailed design, and drafting.
• Strong knowledge of GD&T and Design for Excellence.
• Sheet‑metal design and material selection expertise.
• Experience with manufacturing methods and tooling design.
