Maintenance Worker II – Streets

About the role

The City of Fremont is seeking a Maintenance Worker II to perform semi‑skilled and skilled work on streets, public lands, and building maintenance. This full‑time, onsite position involves a variety of labor, construction, and equipment‑operating tasks to keep the city’s infrastructure safe and functional.

Key responsibilities

• Repair asphalt, concrete, gravel, and dirt‑surfaced streets, alleys, and sidewalks.
• Install, repair, and maintain drainage structures such as culverts, storm sewers, catch basins, and headwalls.
• Conduct pothole repairs using appropriate equipment and mixtures.
• Operate dump trucks, flatbed trucks, and assist with loading and unloading materials.
• Operate heavier equipment (backhoes, skid‑steer loaders, front‑end loaders) on relief or as a trainee.
• Perform snow removal using sanders, snowplows, and related equipment.
• Maintain public lands by operating mowers, tractors, and weed‑eaters.

Required profile

• Ability to work independently while following supervision from an administrative superior.
• Physical capability to perform manual labor and operate heavy equipment safely.
