Machine Operator Assistant

About the role

The Machine Operator Assistant supports the plant’s production line by preparing materials, assisting the machine operator, and ensuring a safe, organized work area. This entry‑level position is essential for maintaining smooth operations and meeting production schedules.

Key responsibilities

• Follow all Columbia Container safety rules and company policies.
• Maintain a clean and organized workstation at all times.
• Assist the machine operator by following written and verbal instructions for each assignment.
• Measure, stack, and tag materials according to job specification sheets.
• Read tape measures accurately and perform basic calculations (percentages, volumes, rates).
• Follow the production machine schedule and report any stock, quality, or schedule issues to management.
• Safely handle up to 50 lb loads and operate in loud, humid, and mechanically active environments.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Required profile

• High school level mathematics and ability to read a tape measure quickly and accurately.
• Strong common‑sense reasoning to follow written, oral, or graphic instructions.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, lift up to 50 lb, and work in noisy, wet, or elevated conditions.
• Attention to safety and quality; willingness to stop work and notify management if concerns arise.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of equipment design and capabilities.
• Understanding of product layouts, production specifications, and quality standards.
• Basic measurement and tagging techniques.
