Lead Structural Designer – Hydropower & Pumped Storage Projects

About the role

AECOM is seeking a highly experienced Lead Structural Designer to drive the design and detailing of large‑scale hydropower and pumped‑storage facilities. The role involves creating and reviewing structural drawings and 3D models, ensuring compliance with international standards and client requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and review detailed structural and construction drawings for dams, intake structures, spillways, powerhouses, transformer caverns, surge shafts, pressure shafts, penstocks, tailrace tunnels, cable tunnels and utility galleries.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams (civil, geotechnical, hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, geological) to align structural designs with engineering calculations, specifications and standards.
• Review vendor drawings, integrate equipment interfaces, and support site engineering by resolving drawing‑related queries during construction.
• Participate in interdisciplinary design reviews, constructability assessments and value‑engineering exercises while mentoring junior designers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; Master’s in Structural Engineering preferred.
• Minimum 20 years of experience in structural design for underground and surface hydroelectric projects, from concept through detailed engineering and construction support.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary coordination and deliver high‑quality engineering deliverables on schedule.

Required skills

• STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, ETABS, MIDAS Civil (or similar structural analysis software).
• Reinforcement detailing and structural steel detailing.
• BIM workflows and clash detection.
• Engineering document management systems and 3D modeling.
