Lead Arborist

About the role

The Lead Arborist is responsible for delivering high‑level arboricultural services, ensuring safety while working in tree canopies of any size. This position combines expert tree care, technical rigging, and client communication to maintain healthy urban forests.

Key responsibilities

• Perform modern arboricultural practices, including pruning to ISA standards and hazard tree removal using spur‑assisted techniques.
• Climb trees safely using SRS, MRS, and traditional methods; operate aerial lifts, brush chippers, stumpers and chainsaws.
• Rig large limbs and trees, install static and dynamic cabling and bracing systems, and conduct aerial rescues when needed.
• Collaborate with colleagues and clients, demonstrating clear communication and safe work practices.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years of industry experience in arboriculture.
• Post‑secondary education related to arboriculture.
• Valid driver’s licence with a clean abstract; D licence with Z endorsement preferred.
• Certifications: ISA Certified Arborist or Ontario Certified Arborist, Working at Heights, WHMIS and First Aid.

Required skills

• Tree climbing using SRS, MRS and traditional techniques.
• Operation of aerial lifts, brush chippers, stumpers and chainsaws.
• Technical rigging for large limb and tree removal.
• Installation of static and dynamic cabling and bracing systems.
• Competency with 0‑8 tonne crane operation (asset).
