HVDC/VSC Systems Expert – Substation & HVDC

About the role

Provide specialist technical oversight for ±500 kV VSC‑HVDC terminal stations, covering converter technology, AC/DC interfaces, transformers, valves, reactors, filters, control, protection and system integration.

Key responsibilities

• Review HVDC system architecture, design criteria, OEM documents and technical interfaces.
• Validate control, protection, monitoring and sequence‑of‑events systems and their coordination with AC substations, grid protection, SCADA and telecom.
• Assess system studies such as load flow, short‑circuit, harmonic, insulation coordination, over‑voltage and dynamic performance.
• Participate in design reviews, model‑validation workshops and technical meetings.
• Support resolution of complex issues during installation, testing and commissioning, and advise on performance risks and mitigation measures.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or Power Electronics.
• Minimum 12 years of experience with HVDC, FACTS, power‑electronic converter systems or EHV integration.
• Proven experience with VSC‑HVDC or comparable converter‑based transmission systems.

• HVDC and VSC‑HVDC system design and analysis.
• Converter technology, transformer and valve engineering.
• Control and protection engineering for HVDC stations.
• System studies (load flow, short‑circuit, harmonic, EMI, insulation coordination).
• OEM design review, testing and commissioning procedures.
