Highway Engineer – Road & Transportation

About the role

Assystem provides engineering, project management and digital services to optimise the performance and safety of critical infrastructure throughout its lifecycle. The Highway Engineer will be responsible for designing highway geometry, preparing detailed project reports and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams for road and transportation projects in Chennai.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare horizontal and vertical alignment designs for highways, expressways and urban roads, ensuring compliance with Indian Roads Congress standards and Ministry of Road Transport and Highways guidelines.
• Lead the preparation of Detailed Project Reports, conduct feasibility and alignment studies, and review survey data including topographic, traffic and geotechnical reports.
• Coordinate design with bridge, drainage, traffic, pavement and utility engineers to integrate highway alignment with structures and drainage systems.
• Use highway design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads Designer and MX Road for corridor modeling and drawing production.
• Review drawings, reports and calculations prepared by junior engineers, ensuring quality control and adherence to safety standards.
• Support tender and bid processes by preparing technical proposals, bid documents and design inputs during pre‑bid and project planning stages.

Required profile

• B.E./B.Tech in Civil Engineering (mandatory).
• M.Tech in Transportation Engineering (preferred).
• 10‑15 years of experience in highway design, geometry and project reporting.

Required skills

• Highway geometric design, interchanges and junction design, corridor modeling.
• Quantity estimation, BOQ preparation, drainage and grading design, pavement basics.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads Designer, AutoCAD and Excel.
• Knowledge of Indian Roads Congress codes, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways specifications and highway safety standards.
