Head – Geotechnical Engineering

About the role

The Head of Geotechnical Engineering will lead and expand Assystem's geotechnical capability in Chennai, delivering safe, cost‑effective solutions for infrastructure, energy and industrial projects. Reporting to the COO, the role combines technical leadership, project delivery and business growth.

Key responsibilities

• Lead geotechnical design activities including site investigations, foundation engineering, slope stability, ground improvement, and underground structures while ensuring compliance with international standards.
• Oversee geotechnical scope across multidisciplinary projects, guaranteeing delivery on schedule, budget and quality, and coordinating with civil, structural and construction teams.
• Build and manage a high‑performing geotechnical team, mentor engineers, drive recruitment, training and succession planning.
• Promote advanced analysis tools (PLAXIS, GeoStudio, MIDAS), BIM and digital engineering workflows, and drive innovation in sustainable solutions.
• Ensure health, safety, environmental compliance, risk mitigation, proper documentation and adherence to internal quality and governance frameworks.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering from a recognised institution.
• 15–20+ years of experience in geotechnical consultancy, delivering complex infrastructure or energy projects.
• Proven experience managing multidisciplinary teams and large‑scale projects.
• Familiarity with international design standards (Eurocode, BS, ASTM, IS) and global project environments.

Required skills

• Advanced geotechnical analysis and design using PLAXIS, GeoStudio and MIDAS.
• Soil‑structure interaction expertise.
