Head Accountant

About the role

We are seeking a competent, experienced, and result‑oriented finance professional to lead our accounting, finance, taxation, payroll, statutory compliance, audit coordination, reporting and internal control functions across multiple business operations and projects in Kampala.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and supervise all accounting and financial management operations, ensuring accurate books, reconciliations and supporting documentation.
• Review and validate accounting entries, payments, receipts, journals and sub‑ledger reconciliations.
• Monitor supplier, contractor and customer balances and manage petty cash and internal cash controls.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, cash‑flow planning and prepare financial summaries and management reports.
• Ensure timely compliance with tax obligations, handle tax computations, notices, audits and advise on statutory changes.
• Coordinate annual statutory audits, prepare audit schedules and ensure implementation of audit recommendations.
• Supervise payroll preparation, including expatriate payroll, statutory deductions and related reconciliations.
• Lead finance team, strengthen internal controls and provide strategic financial insights to senior management.

Required profile

• Proven experience in accounting, finance and taxation within a fast‑paced, multi‑entity environment.
• Ability to independently handle complex financial and compliance matters and supervise finance teams.
• Strong knowledge of statutory regulations, tax laws and audit processes.
• Experience in budgeting, forecasting, cash‑flow management and financial reporting.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills with a results‑oriented mindset.
