Geotechnical Engineer – Rock Mechanics

About the role
As a Geotechnical Engineer at AFRY you will work on diverse and challenging rock engineering projects, collaborating with a skilled team in Sweden and using cutting‑edge technology to deliver innovative solutions for infrastructure, tunnels, underground stations and rock cuts.
Key responsibilities
- Design and engineer various rock constructions such as tunnels, underground stations and rock cuts.
- Analyse rock mechanical investigations and produce detailed reports.
- Perform advanced geotechnical calculations using Q‑system, RMR and GSI classifications.
- Develop and deliver drawings and 3D models.
Required profile
- Qualified degree in rock mechanics, geotechnical engineering or geology with rock mechanics.
- Minimum 2 years experience in rock mechanics, including analytical and numerical analyses.
- Experience reviewing calculations prepared by other consultants.
- Good written and verbal English (minimum CEFR B1).
Required skills
- Proficiency with rock mechanics software such as RocScience suite, Flac2D/3D and UDEC.
- Knowledge of classification systems Q‑system, RMR and GSI.
- Working knowledge of CAD (parametric or direct modelling) and MS Office.
- Familiarity with Trimble/Novapoint, MicroStation/OpenRoads or Rhino/Grasshopper is a plus.
- Understanding of sheet piles, retaining walls, pile foundations and earth reinforcements.
