Functional Safety Engineer

About the role

Eaton’s India Innovation Center is looking for a Functional Safety Engineer to join the Mobility Business within the Reliability & Safety Center of Excellence. You will work on automotive system solutions such as electronic transmissions, power inverters and distribution units, ensuring safety compliance for new product introductions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop safety work packages (Design for Safety) for automotive power‑electronics projects.
• Create program safety plans, hazard assessments (HARA), safety requirements and technical safety concepts.
• Perform verification and validation activities, including fault‑injection test plans and compliance scorecards.
• Deploy the safety assessment framework under senior safety professional guidance.
• Identify and mitigate safety risks, follow the safety sign‑off process for NPIs.
• Plan and execute project milestones, conduct deliverable reviews and communicate with stakeholders.
• Mentor junior engineers and publish work instructions for safety processes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Power Electronics, Safety or Reliability Engineering.
• Experience with functional safety concepts applied to automotive or e‑mobility systems.
• Ability to work independently while meeting project schedules.

Required skills

• Functional safety analysis (ISO‑26262 concepts).
• Hazard assessment (HARA) and risk management.
• Fault Tree Analysis, FMECA, FMEDA.
• Safety requirements definition and technical safety concept development.
• Verification & Validation of safety test cases.
• Fault‑injection testing and compliance scoring.
