Full-Time Plumber

About the role

The Department of Facilities and Services is looking for a full-time plumber to join its maintenance team. Working 40 hours per week, you will be responsible for installing, repairing and maintaining the plumbing infrastructure across our facilities, with a full benefits package.

Key responsibilities

• Install, repair and maintain gas, water and waste‑disposal piping systems.
• Troubleshoot malfunctions, perform emergency and permanent repairs, and clear stoppages in toilets, sinks and other fixtures.
• Read and interpret sketches, plans, specifications and piping drawings in accordance with the plumbing code.
• Lead and assign tasks to helper staff as required.
• Measure, cut, fit and join various pipe materials using appropriate methods.

Required profile

• Ability to work under direction while taking initiative on assigned tasks.
• Capability to supervise helpers and coordinate work activities.
• Commitment to follow safety regulations and plumbing standards.

Required skills

• Installation and repair of gas, water and waste‑disposal piping.
• Troubleshooting and emergency repair of plumbing systems.
• Experience with wrought iron, cast iron, butt‑welded, soil, asbestos‑containing and copper pipes.
• Proficiency in flanged, screwed, bell‑and‑spigot compression and soldered pipe connections.
• Knowledge of pressure‑relief, surge‑check, float, gate and globe valves, as well as unions, sleeves, bushings and reducers.
• Ability to read and interpret piping drawings and schematics.
