Food Catering Assistant – Hospital

About the role

The Food Catering Assistant provides patient and visitor catering services across the hospital, ensuring compliance with Health, Safety and Food Safety regulations. Working on a rota within a team, you will support a high‑volume food service environment, delivering a quality, patient‑focused experience.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and serve meals and refreshments for patients, visitors and hospital staff.
• Operate tills and manage cash handling for food sales.
• Maintain and clean multiple vending machines throughout the site.
• Work across the galley, dining room and vending areas on varied shifts.
• Adhere to NHS Food Fluid and Nutrition Standards and all relevant policies.

Required profile

• Knowledge of NHS policies, procedures and food safety standards.
• Previous experience in a busy food‑service setting, including till operation.
• Ability to commit to a four‑week training programme (two weeks 7‑3, two weeks 12‑8).
• Willingness to work flexible hours and on‑site shifts.
