Financial Modeler (PE, Credit, Debt) - Independent Contractor

About the role

Bullpen-Talent is recruiting a full-time independent contractor Financial Modeler (40 hours per week) in India, working with a U.S.-based technology company that builds AI systems for financial modeling and decision-making. The goal is to train AI to think like financial professionals, so the work is hands-on Excel modeling: building detailed models from a blank spreadsheet and explaining the logic behind them. The primary focus is private equity modeling, with credit and debt modeling also in high demand.

Key responsibilities

• Build financial models from scratch in Excel, covering private equity, credit and debt
• Structure transactions, assumptions and drivers, and link model flows from operations to cash flow, debt and returns
• Debug and improve model accuracy, and explain the financial logic behind each model
• Review and debug models built by others, identifying incorrect assumptions, broken logic and risks
• For private equity: build full LBO models with sources and uses, multi-tranche debt schedules, IRR and MOIC analysis, and sensitivity, downside and exit scenarios
• For credit and lending: build 3-statement borrower models, cash-flow based underwriting, covenant modeling and stress scenarios
• For debt and leveraged finance: debt sizing and structuring, amortization, PIK, cash sweeps, refinancing, recovery analysis and payment waterfalls

Required profile

• 2-10 years in finance roles with heavy, hands-on modeling
• Buy-side experience at a PE fund, including deal diligence and investment committee materials backed by your own models
• Direct experience in private equity, leveraged finance, sponsor coverage, private credit, direct lending or credit underwriting
• Ability to build models from a blank spreadsheet with no templates, and to explain your work in detail
• Strong attention to detail, model accuracy and communication skills; English required
