Farm Assistant

About the role

The Farm Assistant will support daily agricultural operations at the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham campus. This role involves hands‑on work in field preparation, crop management, and post‑harvest handling, ensuring smooth farm activities and a safe learning environment for students.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in land preparation, sowing, transplanting, irrigation, weeding, and harvesting.
• Carry out intercultural operations as instructed.
• Support the application of fertilizers, manures, and plant protection measures.
• Monitor crops for pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies and report observations.
• Assist in nursery raising, seed treatment, and transplanting, maintaining nursery infrastructure.
• Operate and help maintain irrigation systems, ensuring proper water management.
• Maintain cleanliness of farm areas, tools, and equipment.
• Perform basic repair and maintenance activities on farm equipment.
• Assist in harvesting, grading, packing, and storage of produce to minimize post‑harvest losses.
• Keep basic records of farm activities, inputs, and outputs and report daily progress to the supervisor.
• Support practical field demonstrations for students or visitors when required.

Required profile

• Diploma in Agriculture or a related field.
• Qualified candidate with willingness to work in a farm environment.
